National Inventory of SSI manufacturing Dyes, Drugs, Pesticides, Leather Chemicals and their intermediates. Toxicological Assessment of chemicals, Identification of candidate substances for Banning/Phase-out in SSI sector. Case studies to find out AB/AT ratio to identify Minimum Economic Size, if pollution control is to be ensured in units manufacturing toxic chemicals.
# Phase-I National Level Study on SSI   Manufacturing  Chemicals, visits to  industrial areas, discussions with experts, Associations etc
# Phase-II Data Assimilation and Desk Study – consolidated list of chemicals manufactured in SSI, toxicological studies, ranking and short listing to identify candidate substances for banning, phase-out  etc

Phase-III Case Studies-visits to manufacturing units, working out theoretical and practical material balance, identifying suitable effluent treatment technologies and working AB/AT ratios.

Formulating Grid Based Emissions Inventory for Identification of Point, Line and Area Sources for Mumbai city. The total area of coverage was 40 km x 20km. Multiple Source Modeling using Gaussian Model “KILDER” developed by Norwegian Institute of Air Research. Formulating an Air Quality Management Strategy and working out techno-economic benefits of proposed measures. Details of work actually carried out :
# Review Air Pollution Scenario in Mumbai City by accessing AAQM Data available with MPCB, MCGB and NEERI (under GEMS program)
# Preparation of Emissions Inventory – for Point, Line, Area Sources by

Dhaka city is plagued by air quality issues similar to any Asian city i.e poor fuel qualities, outdated vehicle technologies, poor planning. Details of work actually carried out :
# Co-ordinating with team of Dhaka officials visiting India
# Organising discussions/presentations with policy makers and technology suppliers in Refining and Automobile manufacturing sectors to discuss on latest changes planned to meet stringent emission control laws
# Organising discussions with City planners to discuss how transport network improvement was brought out
# Organising visits to sophisticated monitoring laboratories for automobile emissions and industrial emissions monitoring
# Discussing Indian experiences with various legislative measures and time analysis of improvements brought out

Identification of site for Disposal of Hazardous/ Solid Waste

Characterization of Hazardous Waste generated by Member Industries, Suggest Disposal strategy, identify disposal site, evaluate engineering feasibility for disposal. Details of work actually carried out :
# Study of manufacturing processes, material consumptions and outputs to gauge characteristics of Hazardous and solid wastes generated in the complex
Identification of quantities of compatible wastes for defining disposal strategies
Identify possible areas for developing Common Hazardous Waste Disposal Site for PRIA
#  Evaluate each area from viewpoint of available volume, impacts to environment and nearby populace from proposed activity
# Evaluate techno-economic feasibility for proposed development

Site was notified by Government of Maharashtra for development

PRIA proposed to set-up a Common Effluent Treatment Plant for MIDC at Patalganga. Actual detail of work carried out was as under :
# study of manufacturing units from a view point of water usage and effluent generation
# study of effluent treatment technologies available and their performance
# identify strategy for setting-up a CETP
# conducting laboratory trials and pilot scale trials for effluent treatment methodology
# inviting bids on behalf of Association, evaluating bids and finalizing turnkey contractors
# supervising during construction of CETP
# commissioning of CETP with help of turnkey contractor 

CETP established and commissioned with lowest capital and lowest monthly operating cost (compared to a similar size plant)
